Who We Are.
River Rwizi Charity Conservation is a non-profit organization committed to protecting River Rwizi and promoting environmental conservation through community-driven action. We believe that healthy rivers, forests, and wetlands are essential for sustainable livelihoods, biodiversity, and the well-being of future generations.
Our work focuses on restoring degraded ecosystems, preventing pollution, promoting sustainable natural resource management, and empowering communities to become active stewards of the environment. We partner with local communities, schools, government agencies, volunteers, and development partners to implement practical conservation solutions that create lasting impact.
"The people living around the river Rwizi engage in a variety of economic activities that take place along and within its vicinity. One significant activity is farming, where the fertile land near the river has led the local community to encroach upon the wetlands for crop cultivation."

Our Impact
We have been able to create value through our many conservation programs.
Native grass and deep canopy stabilized across Mbarara district.
Markhamia Lutea and Acacia trees thriving along Buhweju headwaters.
We have held workshops in several schools in Western Uganda
Poverty Eradication
At River Rwizi Charity Conservation, we recognize that environmental conservation is deeply intertwined with human well-being. A degraded River Rwizi directly impacts local communities, forcing smallholder farmers and families into extreme vulnerability. By conserving the river, we address SDG 1: No Poverty as our foundational priority, alongside SDG 6: Clean Water & Sanitation and SDG 13: Climate Action.
Sustainable livelihoods depend entirely on water and soil security. When the river's vegetative buffers are destroyed, soil erosion ruins crops, water scarcity skyrockets, and families lose their primary source of income. Our initiatives empower communities with sustainable farming alternatives, agroforestry nurseries, and clean rainwater harvesting to end the cycle of poverty.
Let's fight poverty together
Helping local people around the river to transition to sustainable agroforestry and honey production, generating steady green income streams.
Improving Sustainable Livelihoods
Our programs strengthen sustainable livelihoods by promoting climate-smart agriculture, environmental conservation, vocational training, entrepreneurship, and access to economic opportunities.

Community Restoration Drive Launches in Biharwe
Local volunteers, environmental experts, and community members gathered in Biharwe to plant over 200 indigenous Markhamia trees and bamboo shoots along the degraded banks of River Rwizi. This initiative aims to combat severe soil erosion, restore the river's vital buffer zone, and protect local agricultural land.
Schools Partner for Climate Education Campaign
We are excited to launch our Environmental Education partnership with five major schools in Mbarara. Over 2,000 students will participate in interactive workshops, river cleanup days, and water quality testing experiments to foster the next generation of environmental stewards and secure the future of our precious ecosystems.
